can i buy tickets now?
tickets for 2024 will open saturday june 1st at noon. happy pride!
what do you mean when you say that there are ticket price tiers?
as in past years, we will have three available prices you can pay for a ticket to unabashed. this is intended to operate as a sliding scale in order to make the event financially accessible.
2024’s ticket prices are:
$135 if you have a need, no questions asked*
$210 for general admission
$260 if you want to help us make the con accessible to as many people as possible
*we trust you to know what price works best for you, but please be mindful that if you purchase a ticket at the lowest end of the scale when you can afford the higher ticket price(s), you are limiting access to those who need financial flexibility.
2024 tickets are more expensive than in 2023!
yes, but only a little. all tiers went up by $10 each. still, we hear you, and we want to explain ourselves.
2024 has seen inflation continue to rise - and that includes inflation on things like travel and housing for presenters. we’re still committed to making sure that as many accepted presenters as possible who request travel or housing assistance when they apply get something to help them out, and prices have not gone down, as much as we would’ve wished.
add that to our rental costs for the space and things like lunches, chairs, portapotties, and unabashed-owned accessible dungeon equipment, and we came to the costs we have now.
think of it this way: for the $210 general admission tier, it’s…
$25 per play party (and you get two of ‘em, so a total of $50)
$54 per jam-packed day of programming (and you get two and a half of ‘em, so a total of $135)
$12.50 per lunch (and you get two of those, too, for a total of $25).
we think it’s worth it, and we hope you do, too.
i would really love to attend this event, but realistically it’s out of my budget.
we will have limited scholarships available - both percentage-based and fully-funded. while these are limited to 10% of on-sale tickets, you can fill out the pre-con agreement once tickets open and let us know what you need. (note: we’re not looking for you to lay bare your tenderest parts - you don’t have to justify your need.) as we do not want you to have a different experience at unabashed solely because of your financial situation, you will not be asked to put in additional labor beyond the work shift required of all attendees.
*While we trust you to know what you need, please be mindful that if you ask for a ticket at a more discounted rate when you can afford to pay one of the tiered prices, you are limiting access to those who need flexibility.
why aren’t your scholarships reserved exclusively for people of the global majority (PoGM/BIPOC)?
to recap on our scholarships: both full and partial scholarships for unabashed are currently offered on a first-come, first-served basis. 10% of tickets available for sale in a given year are given out as scholarships. we do not ask scholarship recipients to work any more than other attendees - we do not want you to have a different experience at unabashed solely because of your financial situation. we also do not ask you to justify your need; we believe that asking people to relive their financial trauma is too high a cost for a scholarship.
in this sense, free tickets are always available to PoGM, and every year, PoGM have taken us up on this offer. (how do we know? historically, people have told us, when they didn’t quite believe they didn’t have to justify themselves.) we also offer folks the opportunity to pay for tickets that go specifically to PoGM people (see below; while the explicit question is new, the sentiment is not). but if we were to reserve our scholarships exclusively for PoGM, we have concerns that we would be presuming the needs of others in a paternalistic way. individuals are ultimately the arbiters of what they need, and we believe that listening to individual needs is the best thing we can do in this case*.
this is also why we do not currently have a specific “quota” of PoGM folks for our scholarships, ticket sales, or educators (though demographics do factor into our decisions about presentations). we worry that when we start trading specific numbers in for people, people begin to become just numbers - and that’s no way to be in community. there are also more practical questions:
if we do install a quota for any of these categories, what should be the number or percentage we aim for? 25%? 30%? 40%? 50%? More?
if we explicitly state these quotas, will PoGM feel that we are being seen as people in our own right, or will the feeling be that we are just “numbers” to be “obtained”?
knowing that trust has to be built before a number of PoGM feel comfortable presenting or attending, what happens if we can’t reach these quotas?
we don’t have the answers to any of these questions - which feels to us like a point in favor of avoiding specific quotas at the moment while continuing to receive feedback on this point.
(*)All this said, while our scholarships have already been distributed for 2024, we intend to release a community-wide poll after this year’s con asking how the community feels about scholarships more generally and PoGM quotas more specifically. this poll will include a request for demographic information such that we can understand how different groups feel about this subject. we will use these results to make decisions that impact any future years of unabashed, and update this FAQ when results are in.
i would love to contribute more monetarily to ensure people with fewer financial resources can attend!
great! please reach out to us or donate to @Unabashedcon on Venmo and let us know what it’s for.
i would love to contribute [one or more] ticket[s] specifically for a person of the global majority (PGM/BIPOC) to attend!
we love that! please reach out to us to arrange this or donate to @Unabashedcon on Venmo and let us know what it’s for.
i bought a ticket, but something came up. what’s your refund policy?
If you can’t attend after purchasing a ticket, you have options. we offered:
— a full refund (minus platform fee) before August 12th;
— a 50% refund (minus platform fee) between August 12th and August 29th;
— no refunds after August 29th.
please note that tickets are non-transferable - meaning you must provide the names of those attending at purchase, and those are the people that must attend under those tickets. you cannot gift or resell your ticket(s) to others after the fact.
after the no refunds date, you may choose to donate your ticket back to the con, and it will be offered as a scholarship ticket for someone who would not otherwise be able to attend.
get in touch if you need to request or discuss a refund or donation.
what if i don’t manage to get a ticket?
we’ll have a waiting list that lets us email you if tickets become available. just fill out the pre-con agreement, follow the link, and we’ll let you know if things change.
