what to expect at unabashed 2024
get ready by knowing what’s up.
we want to make sure you’re as prepared as you can be for what’s ahead, so you can take care of yourselves while we’re all together.
if you need additional support, please ask us so we can do our best to support you as well.
before the con, we want you to know…
…the con and dungeon rules.
read them. know them. act with them in mind.
dungeons are freaky places where you will see MANY kinks that you couldn’t even imagine. we love that! we strive to be a generous, non judgemental space for freaky kinky queer joy. there will be trained dungeon monitors floating around to ensure the safety of the space, but you will surely see some things that are not for you, or even upsetting. we recommend a care plan and a care pod in case you need extra support (more below).
…our COVID policy for 2024.
we expect you to test each day before arriving at the con, meaning you will need three tests total. please bring your test with you to show at registration on arrival each day. we will not have tests at the con for you to take.
we expect you to mask indoors at the con, with exceptions for people who have received accommodations. while we will have some at the con, please bring your own.
this year, we are experimenting with short (2-3 minute) mask breaks for folks who can’t make it through a 90-minute class wearing a mask; please step to the back of the space if you choose to do this.
if you have additional questions, read our policy in detail here.
…all about work shifts.
while we used to say we’re a DIY con, we’re shifting to a DIT con. Not everyone can do everything “Yourself”; we want folks to do things “Together.”
to learn more about your work shift before arriving, click here.
to report in for your work shift, find volunteer daddy, who will let you know where to go if you don’t know already.
if you need to make a change, please go to the #workshift-questions-and-swaps channel in discord; ask your peers; and/or let volunteer daddy know when you arrive.
we ask that you be as communicative as possible around your work shift while you are at the con.
…that this con makes space for people of the global majority (PoGM; aka BIPOC).
melanin munch colorado will be holding collective space for PoGM throughout the weekend. we invite you to attend the munch on friday from 5-6, drop by the table, chill with them for lunch on saturday and sunday, and close the con with them on sunday. see the schedule for more details.
if you are not a person of the global majority, read this document. if you have questions, comments, or concerns, we invite you to attend the white caucus on friday from 5-6p.
…that this con makes space for magic.
the con is opened and closed with a non-denominational magical ritual. there will also be a public altar you can choose to participate in, and your kinky magic is welcome in the dungeon. engaging with any or all of these are optional, but certain experiences will exist in proximity to you. If you wish to sit out of the opening or closing ritual, the ritual will be announced and you may exit to another space in the conference center.
…about our orientation towards transformative justice.
if you want to know more, feel free to check out our offering from Mistrexx Fenrir. (19 minutes; if you need captioning, email us; password D5.yzvDV )
…about con overwhelm.
unabashed is a packed weekend. not only are you sharing space with 224 other people for nearly 48 hours straight, you’re choosing and learning from 8 out of 24 classes (more if you dip in and out), you’re learning new things about yourself, connecting with the people around you, concocting and/or participating in hot scenes at the play party, and making sure you’re fed and watered the whole time.
just like any con, people tend to go hard - so if you’re going hard, please know that unabashed can at times feel overwhelming.
please take space for breaks, for food and water, for quiet conversation in the side room, for time in the sensory tent if you need, or even away from the venue. please take care of yourself - any unabashed where you take care of yourself and your needs is a successful unabashed.
…about con drop.
the incredible joys of the con are often followed by some intense lows are you transition back into whatever comes next. be pre-pared for what might happen to you after the con by watching this video.
…about care plans + care pods.
kink can include experiences of big emotion. it has the potential for all manner of wildness - and, within that, things could go awry. while we recommend:
playing only to your level of risk tolerance,
negotiating as clearly as possible,
knowing your needs, boundaries, and edges, and
knowing that, even with the best of intentions, mistakes happen…
…before anything has a chance to go sideways, make a care plan outlining how you will take care of yourself, how you want to receive support and, if needed, how you will make repairs.
a care plan starts with a list of known physical and emotional triggers, limits, boundaries, needs, reactions, etc.. moving from those starting points, you’ll make a plan to take care of yourself if you get into a not-great zone.
you will give this care plan to your care pod - a few people who are willing to be contacted and who will have your back if you need anything. while the producers and other con members are around, we don’t know you or how to support you, but your care pod will.
who is in your care pod matters. find folks that both care about you and can honestly help you hold yourself accountable. it helps to find folks that are also doing work to challenge internalized white body supremacy, acknowledging intersectionality, and showing up for each other in community and politically.
please remember, we do not vet anyone at the con. be aware and take care of yourself and each other.
…what to bring + what to wear.
every day, bring:
—a water bottle
—a vessel for coffee or other hot beverage
—a face mask, preferably KN-95 or N-95
—your ID proving you are 18+ at the time of the con
—the covid test you took that day to show the results
—after you have registered, your name badge + con wristband
there will be water stations for refills available throughout the con. hot coffee and tea will be available on saturday and sunday.
we recommend you wear whatever feels comfortable to both the workshops and the play parties, though you must be street legal outside of the building. if you are unclothed from the waist down, bring something to put between you and the seating, and please sanitize the surface after yourself.
…taking photos or videos inside the venue is not allowed.
you’re welcome to have your phone on you during the con. we simply ask that for the privacy of everyone at unabashed, do not take photos or videos inside the venue. this includes inside the back classroom tent.
you may take photos and videos outside the venue, but please ensure that everyone in the photo or video has consented - including any people incidentally or accidentally in the background. if anyone has not consented, please delete the media.
…there is a possibility there will be protestors.
as you may know, a member of the queer kink community who is white harassed us on instagram earlier this year around holding to our our work shift policy as it relates to people of the global majority (PoGM). while our attendee poll made it clear that the workshift does not cross the boundaries of the PoGM at the con - and while we expanded the number of PoGM scholarships available this year and are offering a PoGM community talking space to get feedback ahead of the next unabashed - this was not enough for this person, and after continued harassment we ended up blocking them on social and banning them from the con for two years.
we have received word that this person may be organizing a protest(s) of the con. while we are unclear on their ability to organize a protest and we do not believe this person poses a risk to the personal safety of attendees, we are sharing this for transparency so that no one is surprised if there is a protest.
because we are committed to making this an epic con whether or not there are protestors, we have hired a queer-owned security company that specializes in de-escalation to make sure the venue is secure. a producer will also be on call at all times to monitor the situation outside of the venue.
if there are protestors, we ask that you assist us in de-escalation by ignoring them. if protestors escalate, please come inside the venue; a producer will be along shortly.
during the con, here’s what to expect…
registration will be at the door.
new for 2024: please note that a security guard from a private, queer-owned company will be outside the event watching the door at all times.
registration is located just inside the venue door. for registration, you will need:
—the name you registered with
—a valid, unexpired form of ID that matches the legal name you gave at ticketing
—a driver’s license, passport, or the MyColorado app (or the app from your state) are all valid forms of ID
—your negative covid test
—to confirm you have signed your waivers or to sign waivers at registration
if you have a workshift that starts before registration is set up, an unabashed producer or staff member will check your ID and COVID test + get you registered.
at registration, you will receive:
—a con name badge, to be filled in however you like
—a con wristband for use throughout the weekend
—a flagging wristband of your choice that you can change throughout the weekend.
you will be expected to wear your name badge and con wristband + have your id nearby at all times.
for the security of the event, if you lose/remove your name badge or remove your con wristband, you will be required to go to registration and show your ID again.
flagging wristbands will be used as guidelines for conversation throughout the weekend.
there are three colors of flagging wristband:
white means GO! people wearing white wristbands are open to being approached for casual conversation and conversation about play. (if someone says they are not interested, then kindly exit the interaction.)
yellow means SLOW UP! people wearing yellow wristbands are open to casual conversation, but would like to be the ones to initiate conversation about play.
pink means STOP! people wearing pink wristbands do NOT want to be approached for casual conversation or conversation about play, but may end up approaching others.
you may change your flagging wristband at any time at registration.
please note that blind people or people with low vision may ask you about your wristband color to know whether or not they can talk with you.

while we intended to have a sensory tent, due to illness our original plan is no longer an option for us. we are working on potential alternatives and will update this page and you at the con.
we have protocol for incident reporting.
multiple dungeon monitors will be on shift at all times during the play parties. in addition, there will be at least one producer on call at all times during the play parties.

after the con, here’s what to expect…
you will receive an email with a feedback survey.
on the wednesday following the con, we will send out a couple of reminders about your post-con experience along with a feedback survey that asks about the con’s organization, its content, the presenter experience, and more. past surveys have changed the way we’ve run specific parts of the con for the better.
you will have until october 1st to complete the feedback survey.
discord will remain open for two weeks.
after the con, we want to make sure you’ve got time in discord to connect with one another, reflect on your experiences, and learn more about the kink scene in denver and beyond.
as such, the discord will close on october 1st.
after the discord closes, the producers will be taking a much-needed break.
starting october 1st, the producers will be “out of office” - meaning we won’t be checking emails or be super on top of socials. we’ll start back in slowly starting november 1.
thanks for your understanding and your patience.
